I watched Orr play as a kid I remember him taking the puck off his team mates stick and skating around, a true puck hog but still great, all the best players are puck hogs

When he played in the 1976 Canada Cup on two bad knees that between periods they would put on ice and drain of fluid , still he was clearly the best player on any team. Canada never lost a game in that tourney. Even the Russians were in complete awe of him.

11:04 talk about rolling out the red carpet! These D back then were nothing like today's players. Orr wasn't wayyy ahead of his time but definitely a few yrs better for sure. His skating ability was key. Also helped that there were still alot of slower, old time guards still playing, not like the young mans game today

Bobby Orr, the first defensive man, that was an office of thread in the game of hockey, the very first one, when he would take a puck from behind his net, and take it all the way to the other end, and put it in the net and if you just didn’t know what to do with him back in those days, cause most defensive men didn’t cross that line and he was the first guy that would start from one in and bring it all the way to the other end and pop it in the neck

The only that killed a 2 minute penalty by himself he went back end to end and had players trailing him nobody could catch him he was greater than Gretzky

Чтобы инерция удара клюшкой передавалась шайбе. Мы тогда пацанами попытались так делать, но клюшек жалко было. I will say one thing in defense of the goalies. They only look bad because this hi-lite real is of only goals. So it skews perspective. There can be a hi-lite real of great Goalie saves. But really the NHL goalies were top notch given the era, the quality of the skates, and gear including the weight of the equipment etc. I was a kid watching hockey in the 70's here and trust me many an exceptional goalie played in the NHL. Names like, Ken Dryden Bernie Parant Gerry Cheevers Ed Giacomin Eddy Johnston Jaques Plante Glen Hall Rogie Vachon Gilles Meloche Tony Esposito Lorne 'Gump' Worsley Caesar Maniago Gary Smith John Davidson And in the USSR Vladislav Tretiak. To name a few.

His ability to control the puck and skate smooth as glass was amazing.

Those were the good old days of hockey.
